Painting from Photographs
8 weeks, Tuesdays, 1/21 - 3/10, 10:30am-1:00pm 2.5 hours
$250/series Oils or Acrylics
Sometimes there's a particular subject we've captured in the moment through photography, but now we want to transform it into a painting. Through brushwork and color, painting enlivens and enriches a photographic image and creates a new visual experience. Learn what makes a good source photograph and how to translate that image to the canvas. Students will work from their own photos and the subject can be anything at all.
Portrait Drawing
8 weeks, Tuesdays, 1/21 - 3/10, 2:30pm-5:30pm 3 hours
$300/series plus a $60 model fee for the last three dates. Total: $360
The model fee will drop as enrollment increases.
Pencil/Charcoal
Drawing is the foundation where we acquire the basics we can carry over to painting. Learn the proportions of the head and how to translate the face you see into a true likeness in your drawings and paintings. We will start by drawing a general template in pencil and then transition to a charcoal drawing from a photograph. The final drawing will be from a live model and in your choice of drawing medium. This series will be followed by portrait painting in the next round.
All levels Intro to Painting

The perfect class for the new or returning painter. Working from observation in black and white, learn how to break down a still life into simple steps and to address the basics of light source. Then we will explore color, paint mixing, and brushwork. Critique and technical advice for experienced painters as well.
